IEEE WIE VIC is celebrating International Women’s Day (08th March) collaborating with Women in Science and Engineering Society (WISE) in Victoria University.
The event is named as “Breaking Down Boundaries and Stereotypes” and Julia Gibney with years of experience in Aviation Engineering background will talk about the steps she has taken in her career path so far to make a difference with known stereotypes of being a single parent, initially not completing high school but moving onto completing a Bachelors and Masters degrees as a mature age student and having little family support. Julia Gibney has an Aviation Engineering background, with 23 years in the Defence industry working in various positions, ranging from engineering processes, maintenance, administration, and auditing to technical risk management and personnel training. Julia started in 1994 as an Avionics technician with the Royal Australian Navy, predominantly working on Seahawk Helicopters. In 2008, she commenced engineering studies and completed a Bachelor of Electronic/Communications Engineering in June 2012. In November last year she also completed her Masters in Engineering (Airworthiness) with RMIT University.
