Visit to AusNet Services’ Grid Energy Storage System (GESS)
AusNet Services has installed and tested a one megawatt (MW) ‘network’ battery to support the electricity grid during ‘peak demand’ periods, typically during the afternoon on hot summer days. IEEE PES (Victoria chapter) along with AusNet Services have arranged for two sessions of (1 hour each) site visit of this Grid Energy Storage System (GESS) in Thomastown. Representative from AusNet Services will present the technology and lessons learnt. A maximum of 15 visitors are allowed for this visit. IEEE PES members are most welcome to join the visit to this GESS facility. Seats are allocated on a first-come-first-serve base. Please make your reservation by replying to firstname.lastname@example.org with your IEEE membership number and indicate your preferred session.
Please note that suitable PPE will be required for all visitors during HV substation visit. The following PPE will be required as a minimum (at the visitor’s responsibility, they will NOT be provided):
Clothing covering full arms and legs
Covered shoes suitable to walk on a gravel surface
High visibility vest
