About the IEEE and Victorian Section
The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) was founded in 1884 and is a worldwide technical professional society devoted to advancing the theory and application of electrical engineering, electronics and computing. The IEEE is the world's largest technical professional body with over 330,000 electrical and electronics engineers, scientists and other professionals in approximately 150 countries. The IEEE has divided the world up into Regions, and the IEEE Victorian Section is part of Region 10 (Asia & Pacific) and represents the Australian states of Victoria and Tasmania. All IEEE members who reside in Victoria or Tasmania are automatically members of our Section.
The local Victorian Section of the IEEE has over 1,600 members. The Section is run by a committee of locally elected IEEE members (refer Section Committee) and includes eight special interest groups called Chapters. Each Chapter has a Chair and is responsible for organising a number of interesting seminars, site visits, workshops or conferences, throughout the year (refer Chapters).
